Protect your bathroom cabinets with a classy coat of paint

Playing around with paint and color in your home can be great fun and painting your cabinets can totally change the look and atmosphere of your Toronto property.

Bathrooms and kitchens are heavy traffic areas in your home and often they need a bit more TLC than the rest of your house. If you want to give your room a quick makeover, spray painting your kitchen cabinets in Toronto can spruce up the space in no time at all. A fresh coat of paint on those tired old cabinets can add much needed bling to your bathroom but it is essential to choose the right paint.

Bathrooms are small, and often damp, spaces so before you splurge on the latest designer paint for your cabinets, there are a couple of considerations that you need to keep in mind.

Gloss or Matt – which one is best?

Neither. Most interior designers and paint specialists agree that semi-gloss is the way to go in the bathroom. Regardless of whether you are painting the walls, cabinets or accessories, you need a paint that is durable, washable and mildew-resistant. A good quality, semi-gloss paint will protect your bathroom cabinets from moisture, humidity, staining and chipping and will extend their lifespan.

Oil based or Acrylic – what should you use?

Acrylic. Both oil-based and acrylic paints have semi-gloss options but when you paint your bathroom cabinets, it is important to choose a fast-drying water based acrylic paint. Before your paint your cabinets, clean them with soapy water to remove any dirt and grime that has built up over the years. Lightly sand the existing paint finishes for better adherence and apply a primer. If possible, use a semi-gloss paint that contains a midewcide and other protective agents that are specially formulated for use in damp spaces.
